The killings happened years later.

Soon, he realized that this would not be easy because he had to release his wife from prison the next day after their trial.  Lewis Gratz and his wife Jennifer married Aileen. It was a rocky marriage as Aileen reportedly assaulted them several times. So he went to jail for this. Additionally, there are reports that he attacked Fell with his cane. Fell obtained a restraining order against his wife. Both divorced within nine weeks of their marriage.

The movie says that after Aileen harassed her brother, she shot her brother. In fact, esophageal cancer killed his brother. There is the same name in the movie. The film uses many details about Aileen’s life to make the story true.
